Trails and Tails
Callout for Artists, Writers and Creatives!
Three new creative initiatives are underway for Wigtown Book Festival 2026 and there are lots of opportunities for artists, writers and creatives to get involved! Words and poetry, writers' walks and short films featuring your favourite place in Dumfries and Galloway - our Trails and Tales project is live.
Ounce Dice Trice
We are delighted to invite local artists to respond creatively to our brand new Ounce Dice Trice trail that truly celebrates playing with words! Inspired by the book of the same name by Wigtownshire poet Alastair Reid whose birth centenary will be commemorated at this year’s festival, Ounce Dice Trice contains a collection of words with different sounds, meanings and quirks that Alastair interpreted in his own way and now we invite artists to do the same.
Writers’ Walks
Are you a writer who has a favourite walk around Dumfries and Galloway? Our aim is to allow our festival visitors the chance to follow in today’s literary footsteps, discovering what makes each unique walk resonate with each unique writer. Creative people often have their own favourite place to visit and many a good story has been inspired by nature, a walk or taking a moment to lose yourself in a view.
Reel People Reel Places
Do you have a favourite spot in Dumfries and Galloway? We would like to showcase the beautiful views, stunning landscape, historical landmarks and unique businesses around us through the eyes of our local people. What we would like you to do is select your favourite spot and tell us about it through a short video or pictures and words that can be turned into a socials reel.
With support from Best of British funding we aim to this year showcase our talented artists, writers and local people – we hope you will join us!
