London, 1851. Restless and bored, apothecary and poison expert Jem Flockhart decides to redesign her physic garden. But discovery of a man’s skeleton beneath the deadly nightshade, and that of a child-like skeleton curled at its feet, throw plans into disarray. The body bears evidence of knife wounds and is accompanied by a collection of macabre objects. When Jem starts investigating who this might be, fresh murders begin, and every victim has a connection to her garden that strikes at the very heart of Jem's own history. This time, the poison is personal…

About the author: Dr ES Thomson has a PhD in the social history of medicine — and found the things she discovered too exciting to leave to the history books.
