The Big DoG Schools Tour
We’re going on tour!
This November, Big DoG will be hitting the road for the first time, bringing authors and storytellers to schools across the region. From Stranraer to Sanquhar, Dalbeattie to Drummore and Lockerbie to Moffat, the Big Dog Schools Tour will stretch the length and breadth of Dumfries and Galloway.
Part of the Wigtown Festival Company mission is to encourage a love of reading for pleasure in the children of the region. According to a report from the UK Social Mobility Commission, one in four primary pupils in Dumfries and Galloway are below the national average of expected reading and writing levels. With our education tour, we hope to help fill this gap. This is especially important for disadvantaged children who are unable to attend our Wigtown and Dumfries events, instead bringing a festival to their doorstep, as well as providing resources for teachers and a free set of classroom books with each visit.
