Tuesday 15 December
7pm, via Zoom

Join the internationally bestselling Queen of Crime, Val McDermid, for a festive chat with Lee Randall about the release of her short story collection, Christmas Is Murder.

Christmas Is Murder is a collection of atmospheric short stories and a fabulous festive treat featuring classic tales alongside exclusive, never-before-seen material.

The Queen of Crime Val McDermid is a master of the dark and sinister story, and these powers are demonstrated in full force in Christmas is Murder, a festive collection of chilling tales.

From an irresponsible baron whose body is discovered beneath a silver birch tree, to an author who is haunted by the spiteful presence of a jealous writing partner, the characters McDermid conjures are enigmatic and dangerous, never above suspicion. Follow Tony Hill and Carol Jordan as they track a deadly killer who is preparing to strike on Christmas Day, and lose yourself in a festive exclusive – a recently unearthed case for a classic detective duo, set as the lights are going out across Europe.

These evocative tales will shock and delight. This is the perfect book to curl up with as the frosty winter draws in and each night gets darker than the last, written by one of our greatest living crime writers.

About the author: Dubbed the Queen of Crime, Val McDermid has sold over 17 million books to date across the globe and is translated into over 40 languages. She is perhaps best-known for her Wire in the Blood series, featuring clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill and DCI Carol Jordan, which was adapted for television starring Robson Green and Hermione Norris. She has written three other series: private detective Kate Brannigan, journalist Lindsay Gordon and, most recently, cold case detective Karen Pirie. She has also published in several award-winning standalone novels, books of non-fiction, short story collections and a children’s picture book, My Granny is a Pirate

The multi award-winning author is also an experienced broadcaster with regular and hugely popular appearances on TV and radio. She is also lead singer of the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers, possibly the only band made up of crime writers ever to play at Glastonbury.

Val was born in Kirkcaldy, a coastal town in the heart of the Scottish mining community. She graduated in English at St Hilda’s College, Oxford – the first from a Scottish state school to do so – before going on to be an award-winning journalist for 16 years. Her first novel was published in 1987.  She is a lifelong Raith Rovers Football Club supporter and served for six years as a board director. Val’s other loves in life include walking, music, and cooking.
