Podcast ~ Episode 6: Dark Deeds and Holywood Dreams

From the team behind Wigtown Book Festival, our podcast looks at the world of books from the distinctive perspective of Scotland’s National Book Town and the people who love it.

In this episode, presented by Peggy Hughes, we speak to three very versatile guests whose careers have spanned various professions.

First up, award-winning writer and former academic Denise Mina discusses her recent play at The Lyceum in Edinburgh, Mrs Puntila and Her Man Matti, and what it is like to choose a career as a crime fiction writer, plus a preview of her upcoming novels The Less Dead and Confidence.

We also meet screenwriter and former doctor Simon Stephenson, whose novel Set My Heart to Five has been optioned by director Edgar Wright. He talks about how the novel is a love letter to the films he grew up watching - and how his debut novel has been influenced by his experience working in Hollywood.

And we catch up with former lawyer turned bookseller Ruth Anderson about her experience running one of the newest bookshops in Scotland's National Book Town, Well-Read Books of Wigtown.

Incidental music by Ragland. Produced by Colin Fraser.
