Fiona Sampson and Alison Grant

Come Down and Stone Moon

Wigtown Parish Church
In person event

Fiona Sampson is one of the UK’s most eminent poets. In this event, she presents her bravura new collection, Come Down, in which she traces her Australian father and his roots in that country, as well as the valley in Herefordshire where she lives and writes. In addition to reading, in this illustrated event she will be discussing her collaboration with Edinburgh-based printmaker Alison Grant, whose exhibition Stone Moon (on show during the festival) takes inspiration from seven of the works.

About the speakers:

Fiona Sampson is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, Fiona Sampson has published thirty books, most recently a critically acclaimed biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She has been shortlisted twice for both the TS Eliot Prize and the Forward Prize and has received an MBE for services to literature. She lives in an old farm on the Welsh border.

Having completed degrees in biology and landscape architecture, Alison Grant forged a career as a landscape architect working on projects at home and abroad, including a decade in the USA and the Far East. Unsurprisingly, given this background, her work is deeply rooted in the natural world. She now works from her studio in Edinburgh and in 2021 was elected to the board of Edinburgh Printmakers.
