A word in your ear

We asked some of last year's writers to describe the Wigtown Book Festival in one word. This short film shows what the excitable bunch came up with.

Become a Benefactor - and sow the seeds for Wigtown Book Festival's future success

Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.  And, in the past 12 years, Wigtown Book Festival has blossomed into one of the most vibrant literary events in Britain.  A registered charity, the Festival showcases writers old and new and reaches more than 2,000 children a year.  It also contributes to the economy and national profile of Dumfries and Galloway.

So what now?  We would like to see the Festival reach its full potential, and to do that we need your help.  We are seeking 250 very generous individuals willing to pay £250 to become Benefactors.  Your donation will go towards strengthening and developing the Festival - for example by expanding the children's and community programmes, as well as purchasing the technical equipment needed to run a rapidly growing event.  It will not be used for salaries or core costs.  Benefactors will be kept informed of progress by a regular newsletter.

They will also:

  • Have their names included in a handcrafted Benefactors' Book, as well as in the Festival brochure and on an honour board on public display in Wigtown
  • Be invited to a dedicated reception with the Festival Trustees, Director and visiting authors at next year's festival

By planting wisely now, we can reap rewards for future generations.  If you love the Festival, please consider giving.  Thank you.

Anne Brown

Chair of Trustees,

Wigtown Book Festival
