2010 Wigtown Poetry Competition

The 2010 Wigtown Poetry Competition is now open for entries. Please click here to view full details and to download an application form. The Wigtown Poetry Competition is the largest in Scotland with a first prize of £2,500, runner up prize of £750, eight additional prizes of £50 each and a Gaelic prize of £500. The winning poem and runner up will also be published in the Scotsman, or its sister paper Scotland on Sunday and will be invited to appear at the Stena Line Wigtown Book Festival 2010.

The Wigtown Book Festival depends on support from its sponsors and friends. You can help support the festival by becoming a friend of the festival for only £20 a year. Benefits include:

Festival wins Arts & Business Award

We're delighted to announce that the Stena Line Wigtown Book Festival has won an Arts & Business Scotland Community Award, celebrating the contribution of our title sponsor, Stena Line.

The awards were presented at a ceremony in Edinburgh's Usher Hall on 1st October 2009. The award was presented to trustee Fraser Sanderson by Michael Russell, MSP, Minister for Culture, and entertainment was provided by Scottish Opera.

The Festival would very much like to thank Stena Line, whose invaluable support has enabled the festival to grow, developing new audiences and bringing maximum cultural and economic benefits to Wigtown and the rest of Dumfries and Galloway.
